Annuallly we have to do several hours of education. Is this FREE labor, or should they pay us for this?
In FL. law, if an employer requires continued education for employees, don’t they have to pay you?

They may likely offer reimbursement on the payment for the coursework required, but they are not obligated to pay for your time in the class.

if it is employer specific and required by the employer then they must pay you as this is considered training.
if it is optional or if it is training that is not employer specific and would be to the employees benefit then the time MAY not be work hours.
see:

either way the employer may set whatever standards they deem appropriate for their business and if an employee does not meet the standards they could be terminated.
such a termination would NOT be with cause and if all the other criteria was met the terminated employee would be eligible for unemployment compensation.
