2k is cheap and its probably a waste. good lawyers who specialize in immigration will charge upwards of 10k with no guaranties. i suggest if you are legal you dump this guy and find a legitimate boy friend.

Only $2k? That’s incredibly cheap! Typical fees start at $5,000 – 10,000, with no guarantees. Usually by the time someone tries to hire an immigration attorney, the person is an illegal alien, or it is too late to do anything, so immigration attorneys are quite often a total waste of money. They will try, of course, but often the person is in so much trouble that there is no way whatsoever to prevent them from having to return to their own country.

If the bf is an illegal alien, there is NO way to “legalize” an illegal alien, not even marriage. A bf/gf has no standing in court and absolutely no way to do anything for an illegal alien. In fact, if anyone tries to “help” an illegal alien, they are subject to 10 years in prison plus $250,000 fine for aiding & abetting, harboring, sheltering, transporting, etc. Never do anything whatsoever to help an illegal alien! So if the bf problem is an illegal alien, there is NO choice but for him to return to his country of citizenship. No attorney can change it or do anything about it. If he is an illegal alien, make sure he goes back to his own country. He will be barred from reentry for (most often) 10 years – depends on how long the person has been here illegally.

And unless you want to live with him in his country, don’t marry him! Nothing but trouble, and probably marriage fraud. Lots of expense and heartbreak for you in such a case.
